Black Hills Basecamp runs a rock climbing summer camp where kids learn climbing skills in the indoor gym and then apply them outdoors, with crafts, games, and snacks mixed in. Separate weekly sessions serve younger children (ages 6-10) and older youth (10-15); gym days typically run mornings while a full outdoor day takes climbers to Custer State Park. It is held in Rapid City and needs no prior climbing experience.

This place is just WOW! I came in for the first time and met 30 of the nicest people ever. The desk staff are super kind and will offer you discounts if they're available. The guy who checked me in (Kohlton I believe) was super helpful and told me everything I needed to know. I came in on a Friday and got a super cheap day pass. The climbing space is very cool. It feels like a whole cultural space. It's full of people who are excited about movement and it seems like everyone wants to share and help each other reach their goals. There's lots of climbing swag for sale like chalk bags, handmade retired climbing rope stuff, and climbing hold earrings. They also sell good chalk. Truly a remarkable place to visit. Highly recommend. EDIT: I went back for the climbing competition and it was even better :)

I got invited to Basecamp in August of 24’ by some friends, having climbed only once in my life, and I bought a membership immediately upon my second arrival. I love the routes, the openness, people cheering you on as you climb, general tips and tricks from fellow climbers. This place inspired me to be a rock climber, and I love the challenges it presents to me every time I go!

My daughters and I are absolute beginners in climbing but we had a blast at Black Hills Basecamp. We were welcomed and given a tour by the friendly staff. The variety of routes and holds offers easy fun or something challenging, whatever you prefer! And they have a small wall for kids. I thought their weights and fitness equipment was really awesome as well. We will be back!
