Their cancellation policy is not clear while signing up and there is no information on the subject. Beware that this y is apparently independent from the YMCA organization and having a Y membership here is different. The membership applies to use all Ys in the country but the membership is not for all YMCA locations and is unable to be transferred. The membership here must be canceled and then a new membership at another Y must be completed. They were not understanding of their ambiguous policy and they do not do refunds apparently. Their hours are also garbage.

Admins need to step up. It is a relatively new facility, which is plus. But staff needs policy reinforcement. I came over on July 26th. 2 times when I stopped by at the pool, the girl that is supposed to be a lifeguard didn't have the tube on her at any time. Even though the swimmers were there. Instead, she was taking selfies all the time. I showed up later at 2:50. The sauna and steam room were already cold. I asked her what time the steam room and sauna get shut down. She replied around 1:55 so it has time to cool off. Well, they will have the whole day to cool off when the pool will close. By the way, did I mention that when I came AGAIN at 2:50 she was on her phone and taking selfies? Additionally, there is a lack of disinfecting wipes in the cardio room. Set up a few stations of them in addition to paper towels. Common guys, stop by at other YMCAs and check out how people work there. You don't have to be innovators, just do what other successful YMCAs do.

The YMCA in Spirit Lake, Iowa is an excellent facility designed and managed to meet the many needs of families in the Iowa Great Lakes area. Recent renovations to the pool at the main building look good. The staff and management are very professional and deeply care about their organization. Great place for all ages.... Latest news (April 2023) is that the Y has increased the variety and number of fitness classes. Filling a gap left by a local fitness center closing. More news (August 2023), weight room remodel is underway. October Update: weight room remodel completed. New equipment and fresh look. Update: 30 Sep 2024 The Y continues to provide high quality activities and facilities. It's one of the 'pride and joy' places in the Iowa Great Lakes area.

I was going to go to swim at this pool today. First of all I tried to call and couldn't get through as their message is horrible and I had to hit sign up for a membership in order to talk to a human. Next when I listened to there phone choices it said the pool was open from 9am to 12 noon. This was not correct. So I head to the Y in Spirit lake thinking it was open from 9am to noon. When I finally got a human to talk to I found out that was not correct. The pool was open from 9am -11am and the again from 1 pm until I can't remember the time because I wanted to go now. So then I asked if I could just do open swim and do aerobics in the water. I also asked it they had deep water open swim. The answer was no. They only have lap swim and that was full all day until 4pm. They also have a splash pad for little kids. And a 3 foot rehab area. That is it. No swimming without an appointment for anyone else. I said to her so you are telling me you have no open swim for just fun swim. Nope. I told her that was crazy and made no sense. She told me that due to insurance regulations they have to keep the numbers down do to staffing. So they can't let more people in the pool then those few at a time. I would never ever recommend this YMCA to anyone. What a joke. I have been a member or the YMCA for 37 year and have never seen anything so pathetic. I am traveling so that's why I was going to go there. I can only swim due to knee problems. Don't waste your time going to this YMCA. If you are traveling go to the Spencer YMCA. They are open alot and have no stupid rules like this. Also they have great open swim with deep water to do aerobics in the water. I'm still mad at this place. Disgrace to the YMCA name.

Where do we start with this old outdated gym. For one it's not a guaranteed if you get to use the basketball court whenever you want they either have kids basketball practice or they have pickleball. So it's kind of like screw your $60 membership because we refuse to build another gym. The equipment is so outdated elliptical machines treadmill machines have all been there since I was 10. Let's not mention the swimming half the time the pool is closed half the time they have swimming practice in there so you can't use it honestly it's a waste of a membership when 75% of the time you're not allowed to do the things you're able to do because they have practic.
