I rarely leave reviews, but because this involves the treatment of young athletes, I felt it was important to share my experience. As a longtime basketball director at Mill Creek, I have worked with youth athletes for many years and understand the impact coaches can have on a child's confidence, development, and overall experience in sports. After hearing mixed feedback about Coach Brent Benson's training program, I decided to enroll my son in a skills session and evaluate it for myself. After attending just one session, I made the decision that my child would not be returning. My primary concern was not the basketball instruction itself, but the manner in which the coach Brent Benson interacted with the players. Throughout the session, I observed young athletes being spoken to in a disrespectful and demeaning way. Constructive coaching, accountability, and high expectations are important; however, there is a significant difference between demanding excellence and belittling children. One incident in particular stood out. I witnessed Coach Benson perform a “cross-over” move against a young player, causing the child to fall, and then laugh about it. The player appeared to be no older than 14 years old. Rather than using the moment as a teaching opportunity, the interaction came across as humiliating and unnecessary. Not to mention this is a 40+ year old coach who’s basketball career went nowhere professionally or even overseas, to do that type of a cross over on a child, yet you couldn’t do this during your own basketball career speaks volumes about this “coach” Youth coaching should be centered on development, encouragement, discipline, and building confidence. In my opinion, the environment I observed did not reflect those values. The behavior I witnessed was inconsistent with the standards I expect from individuals entrusted with coaching young athletes. For parents considering this program, I would strongly encourage attending and observing an entire training session before making a commitment. Every parent should have the opportunity to determine whether the coaching style and environment align with what they want for their child. As both a coach and an athlete, I believe young players deserve to be challenged, corrected, and taught with respect. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this program.

My son has been attending B3 Basketball Academy for a little over 6 months, and I’ve seen his skills and confidence improve drastically. The coaches are all amazing, they create a supportive environment where he feels comfortable, while still being structured and firm enough to keep him focused (which is no small task for a 6-year-old!). It’s been incredible to watch his love for the sport grow. He started with weekly group training, and we eventually added private lessons. Since we homeschool, their flexibility with scheduling has been a huge plus…. they’ve been very accommodating to our needs. Coach Kayla has been especially wonderful. She helps keep everything organized schedule-wise and goes above and beyond to make things work for our family. She’s also been a big inspiration in getting my 8-year-old daughter interested in starting as well! Highly recommend B3 Basketball Academy—truly awesome people all around.

Where do I even begin? We joined B3 this year and it felt like family from day one. Our son found his love for basketball later and that is not always easy when some kids start very small. We started with another basketball club and had an amazing experience. When it was time to take training to the next level we moved to B3. The coaching, attention to detail, team work/collaboration, and standard of excellence are amazing. I am in HR for a living and understand the dynamics needed for kids to succeed. B3 is the place. Coach Kayla and Coach Brent treat our son as their own and they will never understand how just how much that means.

My son has been training at B3 Academy since 4th grade, and now as an 8th grader, I can honestly say this place has shaped him in every way — as an athlete and as a person. He’s played on B3 teams, done group training, and private sessions, and has built strong relationships with every coach. Coach Brent, Coach Kayla, Coach Pat, and all the other coaches have pushed him, believed in him, and helped him grow into a confident, hardworking, and competitive player who loves the game. What makes B3 special isn’t just the elite training — it’s the mentorship. These coaches genuinely care about their players. They teach them how to compete with heart, how to handle pressure, and how to carry themselves with character on and off the court. We’re so thankful for the impact B3 has had on our son. It’s more than a basketball academy — it’s a family that builds future athletes and strong young men and women.
