The Appalachian South Folklife Center is a nonprofit farm and cultural center in Pipestem that runs a summer Learning Day Camp for young people rooted in Appalachian heritage and creativity. Programming centers on music, crafts and community, helping local youth take pride in their West Virginia roots. Founded by poet-educator Don West, the center also hosts music festivals and an Appalachian Piano Tech Camp.

★★★★★Annie BerardinoI haven’t been here in years, since 2011 or ‘12, but I was going down memory lane, reminiscing the times when my church would take us to stay here, and we’d go around helping fix up homes in the surrounding areas. This center was a little slice of heaven, pure and simple. The cabins were perfect for a bunch of teenagers and kids on a youth group trip, We enjoyed talks from historians about the area and the coal mines, played baseball after dinner which was made easy by the spacious kitchen and meeting hall. then before bed, my I’d sit on the hill with my friends and watch the heat lighting illuminate the clouds in the distance over the valley, or stargaze while listening to Rocket Man on someone’s mp3 player and dollar store speaker. Some of the best days I’ll never forget.
★★★★★Karl JamisonSince 2023 I have attended this little campground for the piano tech retreat. The facility is gorgeous with a lot of potential and some cool architecture. The cabins are relatively spacious and they have some really nice restrooms. Only downside is the mattresses could use an upgrade and not a lot of ventilation. The dining hall is spacious and makes for a great workspace for me and my peers to work with demo jigs for skill development and deep learning. The price of admission is the best of anything around and I 100% recommend this for anyone in the piano technology industry. A blend of education and old school camp fun(fire pit is one of my personal favorite areas on the camp)

We all had a blast, Camped out at the festival itself along with some old friends while meeting and making new friends. If you've never attended this festival you really need to mark it down on next year's calendar so you don't miss it. We'll worth being there!
