The Alaska Sailing Club near Wasilla offers learn-to-sail classes with a youth track for kids ages 8-12 (a four-day, hands-on Optimist-dinghy class with on-water games and short sessions) and an adult/teen track for ages 13 and up. Youth classes require a parent or guardian on premises and overlap with the adult course so families can sail together.

I had a great time in the beginners course this weekend! The instructors and club members were so welcoming and excited to teach about all aspects of sailing. All questions were answered thoughtfully and fully. The learning was very hands on and we spent as much time in boats as possible. I can’t wait to go back and use all my new knowledge to take out the club boats and to meet more people in this wonderful community!
Such a gem of a place, so glad I found it. Fantastic community that focuses on fun, family and sailing.
Not a very family friendly place. I bought the property next door with high hopes and joined the club but they canceled my membership and tried strong-arming me for more money. Not cool!
Really good place. Recommend the club if you live in the area. The managers are very much approachable. They even took me out with my group. Really nice people and community. The lake was great.
