I am writing this to warn other parents about the administrative failures at The Adventure Club (Merrillville). My three-year-old son was permanently expelled without the program following Indiana OECOSL Policy #5702, which requires CCDF-funded programs to use positive interventions (like BehaviorHelp) as a first step. Instead, they moved straight to expulsion on his first day back from a suspension. Most concerning was the lack of honesty regarding safety and documentation. When I requested to view camera footage of the incident to understand my son's triggers, staff explicitly told me cameras existed and directed me to the principal. The principal later confirmed that no cameras exist in the classrooms. Providing false information to parents to obstruct an investigation into a child’s care is an unacceptable breach of trust. Furthermore, the environment is consistently low-light and high-noise, which violates Indiana Administrative Code (470 IAC 3-4.7-106) regarding lighting standards for active play. Despite knowing my son was a former First Steps student with sensory needs, the director refused to collaborate on "reasonable accommodations" or stay the expulsion while a district evaluation was pending. If you are looking for a program that follows state mandates for behavioral support and provides transparent communication, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

Adventure Club in Schererville needs to be held accountable. A child being spit on is assault, and the way it was brushed off instead of supporting him is unacceptable. How do you have cameras and still can’t give parents answers? Do better.

When a child is harmed or humiliated, the program is responsible for addressing it. Ignoring a spitting incident shows Adventure Club is not prioritizing children’s emotional safety at all.

I would not recommend Adventure Club in Schererville at all. The billing is always incorrect, and the kids barely do anything productive or “adventurous.” If your child is there until 6pm, I genuinely feel bad remind you kids eat lunch at school around 11:30am they offer snacks one time and won’t even let the kids eat food from home unless it’s a medical condition with a doctor’s note. That makes no sense for an after-school program connected to a school. On top of that, my son had a student spit on him. He was scared to speak up, and instead of taking his feelings seriously, the staff dismissed everything. There are cameras, but no one ever followed up with me about what they actually saw. That tells me everything I need to know about the “supervision” they swear they have. It’s extremely concerning. For what parents pay, this program should not be this disorganized or dismissive. Thankfully, this is my son’s last year here, because I’m beyond tired of the games. Zero out of ten. I cannot wait until my grandmother starts watching my son after school instead. I’m a mother who does not play about her child, and the lack of accountability here is ridiculous.
