USTA L4 Terrible “Team” tournament review. Day 1 (Saturday) was supposed to start at 8:30 but was delayed due to rain. The Director failed to block off the 8 on site indoor courts so the kids did not start playing until noon and even then only 1 round was played because half of the courts were taken by the local men’s college team and red ball kids class. Communication with tournament participants was poor throughout the weekend. The Tournament Staff were extremely rude to kids and parents. For example, they told everyone they were cutting all singles matches on Saturday to ONE set to 6. One very brave 12 year old boy walked up to the Tournament desk and told them that he did not think that was an acceptable format for scoring singles in a Level 4 Team tournament. The staff looked at him snuggly and scolded him for questioning them. They told him they knew what they were doing and to not worry about it. Only after several other kids and parents complained did they finally agree to switch to TWO short sets to 4. The other 4 indoor courts opened around 4pm. Unfortunately they decided to put singles on first before doubles. My son was the final singles match for B14s to go on and it went to a 3rd set tiebreaker. The ref on court told me there was no coaching. I had to run back to the Tournament desk to find the Director to explain to the ref that coaching is allowed before a match tiebreaker. The ref “negotiated” with me and let me coach my son for 2 instead of the 3 minutes required. Parents should never have to correct a referee. I was told after the match that the ref on court was not a “junior” tournament ref and did not know the rules. He shouldn’t have been working a junior event if he wasn’t familiar with the junior rules! Unbelievable! At the end of Day 1- no communication was sent out on team standings. Just several apologies for the confusion and delays. There was no rain on Day 2 (Sunday) but the tournament was still disorganized. They canceled several rounds of doubles in order to complete THREE short-set singles matches on this day to make up for yesterday’s disaster. Also, several teams tied 6-6 but they never played the tiebreaker to determine the final winner for tied rounds! On Day 3 (Monday), there was a 45 min late start for all matches - with no explanation. This was the first day I saw the Tournament Director on site. Parents and players were told the night before to be ready to play at 8am so everyone arrived at 7am to warmup…. only to wait again and then realize, the staff failed to block off all the outdoor courts so two teams were sent OFF SITE to play their final round of tennis. When they arrived at the Middle TN Christian school courts, they were covered in moss so the parents and kids had to dry and clean the courts before they could play their matches. The final punch to the gut was at the end of Day 3, around 1pm… the kids were told there were no trophies because they were still trying to determine how to best calculate the winner. By now, several parents and kids had left for their flights but the tournament staff promised to send a message out by the end of the day announcing which team won the event and trophies would be MAILED to the winners. And finally, I waited 72 hours to write this review and the kids still don’t know which team won the event! In short: DO NOT RECOMMEND! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME. Planning: No backup plan for rain. Ineffective time management. Communication: Tournament staff were extremely rude to parents and kids. Fun: Zero team experience. No daily or final update on team standings.

By far the nicest set up for indoor courts. All the seating is above and behind all the courts on the 2nd level. I believe there are 8 courts inside and 24 outside. Most of the courts outside have LED lights or are at least lit. The city is a growing place and I'd like to see more courts and more covered courts. Lots of programs and clinics. Coach Erik does a great job with new ideas like "Bump." Great place.

One of the biggest tennis complexes that I have seen. There are 8 indoor and 20+ outdoor courts. The indoor stadium is really well built, the spectators can watch all the courts from the first floor. There's a ping pong table for warming up while waiting for your match too. Some outdoor courts have seating too but only a couple of them were covered. I suggest you get some chairs if you are watching games in the afternoon.
