The Academy Center of the Arts runs theatre and fine-arts summer camps for children ages 6 and older on its downtown Lynchburg campus, which includes the restored 1905 Academy of Music Theatre, a black box theatre, a pottery studio and art galleries. Camps run from early June through early August: youth theatre for rising 6th-8th and 9th-12th graders, Missoula Children's Theatre for rising 3rd-12th graders, teen pottery (11-16), costume creation (11-15), landscape painting (11-15), a drumline camp (12-21), and movement, music, drawing, painting and sculpture for ages 6-10. Session length and daily hours vary by camp.

Walking up to the upper level gave me this unexpected mix of a ritzy atmosphere and stepping back into a different era, if that makes sense. It was a really beautiful experience. The ushers were attentive and professional, which I truly appreciated. And thank you to the bathroom attendants—the restrooms were spotless. The musicians were phenomenal - the first chair was jaw dropping on how she played. The facility was so pretty. The workers were delightful and there was a full drink and eat menu. (Although this wasn’t a popcorn kinda music) There is parking across the street. I will look forward to coming back.
